ELAC (English Learners Advisory Committee) is a group made up of parents and staff whose main purpose is to provide support for LEP (Limited English Proficiency) students and their parents. This supportincludes providing parents and students with information about grades, attendance, test results (CELDT, CAHSEE, and California Standardized),and computer training sessions for Infinite Campus. Meetings may alsoinclude providing information on preparing for college, important healthissues, and social issues relating to teens. ELAC meetings are oftenheld before Back to School night and before graduation ceremony so that the parents will have the information they need to take full advantageof these events. Special meetings are also held every year to recognizethe students who are reclassified from Limited English Proficient toFull English Proficient. These students will then be placed in regularcore classes. There is also a ELAC meeting/celebration before theholiday break.

Soquel High School provides information to parents regarding the ROP (Regional Occupational Program) classes that are available to students. Some of these courses include Wood Shop (MillCabinetry), Engine Repair, Administration of Justice, Floral Design,Cosmetology, Health Careers, and Computer Graphics.

The parents of LEP students essentially run these meetings and decide what the topics will include. Parents are elected to offices during the first ELAC meeting of the school year. Parents are nominated and then attendees vote to elect.  The importance of holding regular ELAC meetings is to build a strong community for the Soquel High School English Learner population and their families.
